SmartRoot is a image analysis tool which uses a tracing algorithm to quantify the root growth and architecture. It uses the ImageJ application in order to analyze the image and provides you with the details in formats compatible with other data analysis programs.
The plug-in is able to handle a wide range of image types and plant species in order to perform measurements of the root length, diameter and insertion angle. It can export the information as CSV files but can also insert the data in a Microsoft Access file or a MySQL database.
